I dont mind the idea of skillmaps, I simply loathe that people make rectangular prisms scattered across a void and call it a map.
Maps should be both visually and structurally pleasing, while still staying playable. This same rule should apply for skillmaps.
I agree with you that maps should be realistic.
The only point I disagree is; A skillmap is not how you make it look realistic, the point of a skillmap is to make it simple, a challenge and obviously fun.
