I'm a huge fan of Nintendo so of course I'm excited, or rather I would be if I had any of the consoles ;-; I smacked in Brawl, literally.

smash bro's is f*cking awesome, but really nintendo needs to step up their game to get me interested in even buying the damned thing.
With Nintendo, you have to realize it's all about subjectiveness. They don't really care what the masses are doing. They once stated They should be viewed similar to that of a toy company and do what the others are not. It's their way of saying "We have something they don't, and because of this-- you should try it". IMO, that's the way it should be when it comes to developers. But again, that's the subjective me talking here as I got tired of the obvious copies of genres/sub-genres out there.
Ever since the popularity of Halo/CoD-- there's been FPS games everywhere. Ever since the popularity of LoL/DOTA-- New MOBAs have been spawning left and right. Ever since the popularity of anything zombie/infestation related-- there's been many survival games following it's path.
Nintendo simply sticks with what they have; even if it's "the same" when it comes for their original first party IPs. Sure, Mario is all about jumping and platforming. Sure, Zelda is the same Dungeon exploring game it always was. Sure, Metroid is that adventurous platforming-shooter ever since the first game. But you know what? Nintendo never blatantly copied what was popular. The only thing that comes close was Splatoon, but they still was able to change it up as a different kind of 3PS altogether.
This is the reason I trust this company is because they don't need to take from other games except from their own. Sure, they can at times "reach" when it comes to some recent ideas-- but that's what most people love about Nintendo-- they at least try. It may affect their sales-- but with the bank they have... they really have nothing to worry about.
PS: The new 3DS was a terrible idea. There's no reason to boost processing power on a handheld that's already dominating the market just to alienate their consumers. As much as I admire Nintendo, they still have their faults when it comes to hardware decisions.
