I want to see how much work I should put into these new archetype maps.
Yesh!!
If anyone has a specific time when you use it, say CWar, please list those times. It helps us better know which maps will be heavily used.
i step it up a notch and force a super high LOD bias
looks way better than just a high picmip
no reason not to improve the game's visibility as much as possible
I don't use it..... looks cartoony that's why.
Well there is a glitch in RealSpace 2.0 (GunZ's visual engine) that allows us to force some textures on all players, so we are planning on doing to really nice looking maps that are stripped to the bare minimum. Instead of having horrible looking textures, you would see the same thing as someone using a high detail'd texture setting.
yeah, i've noticed that time to time with custom maps and i just assumed the textures were somehow baked incorrectly (like some custom maps that sponsor a private server on signs & billboards). good to have its existence confirmed & noted as intentional.
i've always focused on the game play, not map aesthetics. although i can't deny some of the custom maps i've seen are beautiful (BB's private server with the first ever truly custom maps were amazing), i always prefer being able to play with quake graphics, but more importantly, i prefer being able to have that choice and i'm sure most gunz powergamers do too.
prioritize layout, not textures :)
only use arche type config to minimize lag when there is a heavely use of smoke grenades lol
Used archtype once in a while on my old computer, for my new computer I do not need archtype at all.
I use archtype not for the FPS boost it provides but because I find it easier to focus on my opponent(s) easier.
I use archtype in cw for better fps and spot players easily
I don't use archtype in events because some events contain maps that dont support it as much because they're all the same solid colour
i use archtype because ppl blend in less and it's more comfortable i guess.
I never use archetype when i play. but some people still use archetype on my computer because of their mindset that the game will be even faster. or that just they can see better. eitherway, for me personally. i dont use it.
I sometimes use Archetype to make stuff easier to see but I'd prefer white maps easily over archetype
Yeah u mean this right? : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGgwXGnFhPE
how do I even get this o_O
you can no longer do this, back in the day ijji made custom maps for no texture (white map pack) which would no longer work here due to FG changing the file type to FGZ
to encrypt it
I've asked numerous of staff when this would happen but still have not gotten an answer. The day white maps come to FG would make multiple people I've played with happy including I
I remember an archetype config that made it grey instead of white, any clue?
I haven't done this in years since gunz servers usually have archetype in game but I think you may be able to edit the config to make the game less quality (archetype) / grey maps.
I could be mistaken
okay well my mistake, I really didn't care where it came from I just liked using it back in the day when my pc was crap and I lagged on mansion ;D
I use Archetype all the time. Sometimes I take it off during events.
I always use archetype '-'
also: white maps was bannable so yea... lol
I always use it. Easier to see people without texture distractions everywhere.
You have to remember ijji was simply the host, they didn't make anything themselves (and MAIET doesn't give a shit about players, so yah.)
Back on topic: As for the white maps, no, that is now what I mean. You will soon see the maps that use this new style that we figured out last night.
oh i said tthat reply above cuz with white maps, some items on maps were removed for players to shoot opponents n see them easier, thats why you could get banned for using it. Items that were removed with white maps(player edited gunz maps) are items you cant see through, but can shoot through. Those are what white maps removed, so stuff like the clothes in town alley, which is heavily used to be evasive and juke/clutch in 1v2+. Theres more, but yeah.
No lol, i dont like it
i comment yes but i vote no hhh
I use archtype all the time lol cause without archtype it hurts my eyes ;-;
I like Archetype in town only '-'
But i dont like it on other maps
I can't see how you can say that there is a point to bland textures when archetype was never intended by MAIET to begin with. GunZ has these things called texture levels, using lower quality bitmaps depending on the quality level set. Originally there were three levels (Low Medium High; texture level 2, 1, 0 in that order) Archetype was a glitch in Real Space 2.0 using a texture level of an 8.
Archetype defeats the purpose of textures, not the other way around. We simply are trying to find a way to a happy medium.
It really doesn't create much of a difference for me except maybe 20'ish frames. Considering I average 400 with no models in sight on basically any map (Superflip usually drops to 300 due to a lot of shit); to me it's somewhat useless.
250 is good for me anyways because any higher there's unnoticeable input delay differences and stresses my GPU less.
But for others with weaker PCs it's generally a good idea.
Pretty sure he meant "the point of using bland textures" not "the point of including bland textures in the game".
Archetype aids visibility in matches, allowing people to spot and focus on targets more accurately. Removing it from the more competitive game modes- TDM especially- would be a bad move. That said, it probably doesn't matter much if you force Archetype off in training rooms or the sillier game modes that people play to goof around.
However, forcing people to appreciate high quality maps you make by disabling Archetype is kind of egoistic, imo. You should let people have the freedom to choose how their game looks. I do think it would be nice of you to put in the work to make nice looking maps but I'm sad to say many people probably wouldn't care that much.
I use Archetype all the time.
I always use archetype.
1. To increase FPS
2. Without archetype I cannot see the target because he/she blends in easilly most of the time (thats how it looks like to me).
I don't see where all of you are coming up with this "forcing archetype off". We simply are using textures that allow for both accuracy and still look decent. I apologize that I can't stand seeing a 4pixel bitmap stretched across 500,000 pixels worth of screen space.
Bland textures will stay, but the horrible looking archtype has got to go.
I use archetype all the time.
Reasons :
Easy to see target.
Better Fps.
Movement looks better.
No annoying textures.
Im using Artchtype , i'm using Archtype always in CW and always
Make me more fps [BAD PC ] without archtype my fps is 130 with archtype im with 250 the normal :)
And it's like clear map can aiming better .
I use archetype all the time! :)
You said this earlier in the thread:
"Instead of having horrible looking textures, you would see the same thing as someone using a high detail'd texture setting."
This is effectively the same as removing archetype. The point of using archetype is to get those bland looking blank textures. It improves target visibility.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding something, though. Feel free to elaborate on exactly what it would look like because if it's still completely blank and featureless like archetype then I guess I don't see any issue.
I am talking new content, not old maps and such. The new textures would be bland (but clear) no matter what setting is used. Not only does this allow for users who use archtype to actually see content that is not an eyesore, but levels the playing field for those who use archtype and those who do not.
This is all in the testing phases, an example of a texture used that follows these guidelines is Hellsnipers CW Map, and although not perfected, gives you an idea of what I am meaning. 70-85% of the players on Freestyle play with Archtype, and it saddens me that they must look at shotty graphics just so they can play decently. In an ideal setting we can create textures that are both use able without Archtype configs, while keeping the visual integrity of the meshes.
I only use archetype in TDM and CW's. So i'll click sometimes.
That sounds like a really neat idea, then. Looking forward to the new maps.
I think Archtype is really good for people who can't see as well as others do.
The map could have to many shapes and colors, and could help the players way of playing. So Archtype is a really good thing.
I use archetype mainly to aim at my opponent in-game like duel tdm etcetera. I also use it when i host player hosted events like in LMS , i can see the participants easier :o.o
