inconsistent antilead?

Uhm since the update (Like the old hitbox btw ty for bringing that back) I noticed the damage still seems inconsistent is this because of the anti-lead?
I don't know why this is so that is why am asking this question.

There are times I can 3 shot someone but then the next duel I will do basically no dmg even tho I am aiming the same way.

I asked around if other people had this problem and some people say they don't but some do, I have more replays if you are not convinced about it.

Technically that is a 1 pellet hit...

Shotgun spread is random, sometimes you get lucky with a spread that's close to the center and sometimes you're not lucky.

Why is that (I guess it's more life-like)? Making it consitent would make the game more about aim & skill than about being lucky with your spread. Some shots that feel like they shouldn't do any damage do a lot, and other shots that feel like full PBs do nothing

I think it's like that by default in GunZ 1.5? Not sure if it's like that in GunZ 1.0 as well.

you guys should learn by now that pellets are never accurate with anti lead.

It came that way in 1.0 and 1.5 from Maiet. That's just how gunz has always been. Just like how spread for other weapons is a completely random pattern each time (smgs rifles ect) if you hold down the fire button.

Gunz is semi RNG base in terms of spread.

You aim 5/5 And your opponent aims 5/5 , both into the same area, who ever got the better spread output (RNG) meaning the spread favours hitting more into the hitbox then that person will win.

So if i get this right gunz has Bloom?

Makes sense. Could you consider making it not random then? That could fix a lot of the issues regarding hits/damage

with the current state of the game it wouldnt be such a bad modification, id think players prefer an even and a consistent spread that would allow actual skill to win a duel/game.
this is another step away from realism though, as shotguns are supposed to be random, if you didnt want random maybe you shouldve played pistols or whatever.

Yes, I've coded static shotgun spray/pattern as a test and I think it didn't make it to the live client because people didn't want it.

However, what I could do, but what we actually want to prevent, is add another roomtag for static shotgun spray. So people can turn it on and off as game-room option, just like how they can turn anti-lead on and off as game-room option. Look, I could do that, but we don't really want more room tags.

Don't implement anything like that Sic, people complained forever and a day about how they wanted the 'old gunz' feeling back, so you've brought back the old hitboxes, now they find something else to complain about which if changed would be a massive game changer again.

is it really that big of a change or an unjustified one to expect an (on average) even amount of damage throughout every shot? shots will still be spread as much as they do but they will in a non-changing pattern where the pellets are all evenly spaced (or so ive understood)

Well, I just think it would make damage feel more consitent and stable in a way. Should just make up for a better player experience :D

Some would like it and some would hate it. So there's no real benefit from changing it. Get closer and you won't miss as many pellets, that would be true for any shotgun spread.

They did make a poll and test it out when they were making V8 though.

I haven't even seen anything other than support to making a change like this regarding the spread.

This could be a nice way to test out whether people like it, and if they do, it could become the new default. Whereas if they don't, the tag could be removed

I don't mean to nitpick, but something is definitely off. Watch 4 rounds of Ganggbangg's fight vs someone with a higher ping:

Round 1 - It shouldn't have taken all those hits to kill someone with the vanilla hitbox at close range. The opponent also mentions how an SPB did 22 damage.
Round 2 - 7 hits like those for 121 damage?
Round 3 - 9 good hits and no kill? (Not all shots display "HIT" because the opponent was lagging, but you can hear the hits/beeps in the original video with sound)
Round 4 - Shouldn't have required all those hits for a kill.

I've also experienced similar issues versus laggers where several shots do 0 damage; 2 shots at point blank range only do 33-66 damage each; or a sword pb only does 55 damage. Playing versus lower pings seems to be fine.

round 2 was 8 hits btw, averaging 15 dmg a hit.

Tbh this is the first time I noticed something off about the antilead, the past few days been fine to me on the new hitbox.

You guys have played long enough to know that replays are the worst assumption of what is a hit and a miss. Anti-lead is fine, it's miles ahead of the v8 anti-lead.

Those replays are coming from Ganggbangg himself - the guy who actually fought (and not just watched replays) & also has no issues vs lower pings since the update. And we are talking about the v8 antilead here (not the vanilla/v7 hitbox).

Well since McSic didn't mention anything in the patch notes, I'm assuming we currently have the v8 anti-lead with the v7/original hitbox, which might be why some of us face issues. Only the admins can clarify it for us at this point.

also this is the only correct way to determine whats a good hit or not, from streams. even personal replays have bugs with the hit and miss.

It is, but it's still frustrating to play vs players with higher pings. It may not matter much to you guys since you mostly only clan war and don't find a variety of players, but it's different in big TDM rooms/DMs etc. Some of us are still curious as to what the problem is. 0 damage hits (in realtime, not replays) are not okay.

Looking at those replays I can see a lot of pellets passing by / hitting the ground / walls, which means barely any pellets are left hitting the character. So the low damage dealt looks fine to me. You gotta remember those are shotguns you're fighting with, with a huge and random spray. So if barely any pellets hit the enemy, due to distance / unlucky spray - like in those replays - don't expect a lot of damage.

i noticed you were shooting feet with the v8 hitbox which you can shoot in between so your shots could just have bad spray like mine apparently had
and you have pellets off so there is no way how many pellets hit

I appreciate ur opinion, next time I feel like facing this issue again i'm going to try and get better evidence(talkin bout realtime pov slowmo's and all that shit). I still very much enjoy the new hitbox so thanks for that.

Are there plans of nerfing shotgun damage though? I feel like anything beyond 3vs3 is really annoying to play since you get bursted to death really quick. Thx 4 da effort

Yes we have plans to balance shotguns in near future.

Just remember when watching replays that pellet spread will differ client to client, therefore during your live fight your pellets may be missing but watched from a replay POV they appear that some are hitting, then if someone else watched the replay it may appear even more or less pellets were hitting.
