Discussion about playerbase

Sup everybody :D!

In this thread we have a discussion about how FGunZ can get more players and recognition.

My Idea: Like the streaming awards, have awards for FGunZ related material that gets 200 or more views on video platforms. It can be anything from cosmetic items to custom jjangs, shotties, weapons, coins whatever. Make people want to create more FGunZ content.

Important: At the moment if you go on youtube and search "GunZ", "GunZ the duel", "GunZ private server" you find absolutely ZERO videos of FGunZ, now that's a problem, that means there is no way of FGunZ to be found. In fact I searched for FGunZ and youtube recommended me videos of that other pserver.

That other popular server has videos ranging from 10,000 thousand to 170,000 thousand viewers, and all of them are on front page. We can't go down without a fight, if there is no way of finding FGunZ, it doesn't matter if were the better server, people want to search. find. download. play.

You guys can't realize gunz is just a dying game, no matter what you do, playerbase won't go up drastically as what FG used to be 7 years ago, even gunz section @ RG forum is already dead and inactive.

The reason why you can barely find any FGunZ videos on YouTube is that trolls of other servers have started taking down any FGunZ video with fake copyright notices. If you or anyone else starts uploading new FGunZ videos, there's a good chance they will be taken down as well at some point.

I know how to deal with that :) already got one video they false noticed up again. Basically if you counter the claim with actual legit laws or law firm the settlement will go to court, but the point is MAIET Entertainment is fake so those rats cant go to court :-)

I will help anyone who is gonna get falsely striked. That false takedown just boils my blood further. If my first video with 12k views didnt get taken down I would probably not be playing fgunz. The reason I came back to FGunZ was because when I was serving in the millitary I got an email that my gunz videos were taken down. After my service ended the time period where you could counter the claims was over. So now I want to DESTROY them, its kind of a personal vendetta :D

Like I said, whats the point of going down without a fight? From your pessimistic perspective we should just all suicide in real life because at one point we will all die anyways. If we put so much time, money and energy in to this server, then we should ****ing knock any competition out. Whats the point of just taking it in the ass and slowly die when that other server is probably using shady tactics to limit fgunz' reach anyways. There is literally no competition at all to knock out, there are just two active servers, one of which has shitons of BR players and don't have anything balanced and then you have FG which has been dying for years now, it hardly keeps 90 ppl during weekends, imo admins should focus on another game and dump FG, chances of suceeding there would be higher than keeping developing it.
Putting time and effort is simply worthless.

Even if we actually wanted to, it's not possible to merge servers because of different databases, client files, server files, staff, $ and conflicts as to who gets what kind of power.

I'm probably speaking on behalf of most if not all fg players, we appreciate and cant thank enough that updates keep running and coming.
also I don't think the player base will go any lower than this, the remaining people are loyal in my opinion,
I mean I haven't been playing as I used to, but ya know... I log in from time to time and I genuinely have a lot of fun when I'm around.
so dear staff, do your best! the community won't fade.. and we are grateful

The trailer competition for V8 only included 10 participants, there is a limited amount of VFXers in the community. Also as Dave mentioned about the Youtube issues, it's clear even with the tournament matches that were uploaded for the 1v1 Tournament in the summer. The channel that I created for Tournaments was taken down along with all the videos on it due to false copyright claims. The appeal with Youtube is still on-going and they haven't replied to me in a month, they don't give a shit and will only get this stuff handled through their stupid bots.

i like this post tho, media/social media really is a great help in terms of reaching out and grabbing the attention of new players. The way I see it is yes gunz is a dying game, but having a dying community doesn't help it's case either. If we want to revive FG then we have to all come together and contribute something for the community to show that we're still poppin ya'know. I get that not every one is able to create something as big as a video or w/e but every little thing helps so like if one of us DOES make a vid then ALL of us can like/share/etc to show support and our activeness. Create artwork revolving around our FG community, showing off our unique item designs, our personality as a fun,free, and creative community etc.

** imo i think the way to go is to advertise our server/game as if its like a brand new game. we cant keep catering to old experienced players, we have to pull in new gen, like BRAND newgen. kids that have never even heard of gunz before. cause I believe that the experience in discovering the crazy shit you can do in GunZ is pretty unique and fun. (you can see that same spark from fortnite with the building learning curve)

Let's be real, GunZ has been decreasing in playercount over the past years. It is a given, with all the current better games it would have eventually died anyway.. when v8 came out, alot of good things were implemented, but the key things that made FG, FG were removed. ([R] [IA]) for example really made FG, FG.

I do believe with a few simple rollbacks the server could grow more, but probably never too it's peak again.

I've said this on old servers, and I feel like I've said it on here too. I agree with George. We need to focus the attention on another game while our forum still has a good amount of activity on it. I know you're all gonna look at me like I'm some grinch who doesn't want to stay positive about this and you're all hoping for 200-500 player count days to return, but you gotta look at the facts. The two main servers left merging together would be a no-go, and our staff are better than to go on some sort of DDOS war trying to force players to come here. Advertising an old game like this with hardly any graphic work to it isn't gonna appeal to the new, younger generation that's never heard of GunZ before. Honestly even trying to get some of my own friends to play that are in their 20s is difficult because the game isn't very visually appealing. It only sticks with a very small amount of people. Advertising could work in the long-run, but advertising tends to be a very slow growth, and that's if it were to even work. Realistically by that point the game would be fully dead IMO.

I'd suggest some game names as replacements, but idk how things work as far as legalities or what our development team will be able to do based on their experience/tools they have to work with.

Honestly I would not mind that all the ingame values to back to it's origin (the maiet version).
This would mean lower damage values and such, bigger differences in terms of stats.
The use of BP, where you actually grind to get gear with still having all the original 'premium' gear to be F2P via the bounty system.
Making the donation items the new ' premium' gear with slightly better stats (only a little like the ijji gear had).

That might trigger people to come back to the game they know.

Good thing ur smart, this 1 is much morebetter in future update make it more classic instead, and all the quest item combinations at shop so questers can do somthing else than doin golem all day like a dog and getting legendarys every 5 games....... saw like new players everytime i get back, they like to play quest lmao they're palying lich at when they're new they shouldn't aldo some of them play other modes before questing golib kings coz it requires a higher level or somthing...

That one pserver that is an ijji copy isnt doing too well.... but I AGREE with you!...... But it should be 50/50, if a new player joins they get gear and weapons that are decent enough, but the really good weapons should be earned, if there is nothing to earn players have no reason to play, but if there is no good gear for low levels ppl just say **** this and rq! Leveling up should also be made harder IMO, with turbomode its overpowered! LETS POLL THIS STUFF GUYS.... I believe at this point an admin or a fm should make a thread and poll stuff, so we can improve! TRIAL AND ERROR! :D

I love all the responses in the thread! Let's all give our opinion and improve the server and get more players!

It does not have to be an exact copy, we still got our modes and extra cool items n stuff.

1st, things like graphics, old gameplay and years of life on a game doesn't mean that it's worst or a reason for let it die, so many old games still have a big active community, and recently there was an old game that explain what I mean (World of Warcraft Classic). So these things aren't a reason for say "let's give up on revive Gunz".
2nd, for me the real reason that explains why Gunz doesn't have new players is cuz the toxic community. Let's see an example:

A new player join to fgunz and join on a duel room. When he's going to PvP the old player, that player will flip the new and will humiliate him, then after the old player kill him, he'll say something like "haha ez noob" (for don't put a worst thing that some players say to a newbie). What do you think the new player will do? Come back? Ofc no. If y'all want to make the players count increase I think this should be change. (And I'm not saying the stupid ultra ego of players, the "racism" (for calling it somehow) of sg players to other players and vice versa, and the toxicity)

Apart of these things, Gunz is dying cuz it's being obsolete compared to other games which gives more things. For a example, tell me one thing that it's absolutely new in Gunz, in Quest there weren't new bosses/NPCs with new skills or new maps on it. In PvP there isn't something really new that change it's gameplay for give a new style and don't get tired of the same thing. Idk if I'm explaining what I mean, but gunz is dying cuz the community and the obsolete content.

Old graphics are fine in all honesty.

Toxicity is in every game, take League of Legends for example.
The sad thing is we should not ban ever toxic player in here, if you do that you have litterly no one left playing.
Though I personally wish it stayed more on an ego level as a toxicity level, since I kind of enjoy the ego and 200IQ brain players on GunZ, it makes the game more competitive like (1vs1 with 11-0's smackerino's).

As for new quests, it takes a lot of time to develop a new quest (with new characers, animations, the levels and what you said new skills).

Ik that toxicity is on every game, but the difference is that on gunz is like 80% of the people are toxic. League of legends have a big toxicity community, that's right, but the comunity of that game is so much bigger than gunz, so the toxic people aren't a really big part of the community of league of legends. While in gunz, the community is small, and the majority are toxic.

As for new content, i didn't mean only on quests, i meant on pvp too (and no, turbo isn't a really big change of gameplay or a really new content, it's just a deathmatch more frenetic). With new content on pvp i mean something like prop hunt, a new mode that change so much the normal gameplay style of gunz. There wasn't something really attractive for people, and playing all the time tdm, cw, duel and glad make people get tired of the game.

Agreed, we only have clan ranking and every other ranking is irrelevant (people playing turbo 24/7 to have most exp in the game lol.)

yes i feel this is also a great thing to point out. gameplay gets dry after years because its all the same after a while. new gameplay is never introduced, unlike league where they continuously add new champions/items which alter meta gameplay, fortnite with their many different weapons which create new strategies/tactics. All there ever is to do now in gunz is the same ol kstyle run n gun lol.

just reading this post gave me a spur of ideas so im just ganna type it all out as it comes to mind lol.

-shield weapon? Would replace melee or even both melee+range slots. tank/bruiser gameplay i guess, blocks bullets 100% unless you shoot at the head/exposed areas (toes xd). Be able to nudge/shove as primary attack and secondary would be a charge up? lunge/knockdown or just a instant, more powerful knockback to enemy. could create meta's like shielding ur teammates when theyre low n trying to heal all the while they're getting shot at. i'd see this being ran in 3v3 tdms or w/e (taking elements from different games for example apex legends and gibralter's shield forcefield ability but applying gunz logic to it)

-throwable kunai/knife **optional - with the ability to teleport behind ( or w/e direction that doesnt seem too op, just saying behind for now) the target that was hit with kunai. should be a delay in when u can tele (so that you cant just hit then instantly tele), user that was hit with said kunai would have a marker above their character indicating they have a kunai struck in them and have the potential of being tele'd on. Initial kunai hit does damage, user has option to tele or not (can follow up with slash pb or w/e) idea from naruto xddd some minato shit

skill map quests (lmfaooo). - feel like this has been suggested before but if possible, skill maps with quest format. no monsters obv, just the spawn and the end portal. with each round (room) being a different skill map obstacle. When you complete a skillmap in training, theres no real reward other than just self satisfaction of being able to finish it and say you can, but with skillmap quests you can actually get ingame rewards like xp,unique items, and i will suggest stats/records. Having ingame records of who has completed this map the fastest/attempts/etc.

-Interactive maps. - is it possible to add bots into regular rooms? like quest npcs. Could maybe create things like a target practice system where npcs have set/random spawns and pop out like the carnival game whack-a-mole.

-New quest mode idea, Ariel mode. - a map where players will have to constantly be scaling walls while shooting at monsters to kill them. npcs should 1 hit, to punish the noobs that cant handle wall slash gameplay. (idea from a scene from Zombieland LMAOO, where the squad is stuck on an vertical ride that only goes up and down and zombies surrounded them from all sides while they were stuck up in the air only able to shoot from above.)

-Stats/achievements - gunz is a game full of ego so we should have public achievements/medals that we can flex and show to others. We currently have VIP icons n stuff but I feel we should visually have more stats that will further show how much better you are than others (but in terms of gameplay n such). For example have statistics like duel,tdm,quest rankings and have them show ingame ( like a player spotlight type deal) Medals or achievements such as, king duelist for users who have reached a certain number of duel wins (final placing, not most kills). Deathmatch warrior, reach a certain number of DM wins. Bloodthirsty medal, for reaching a certain amount of kills in their career. Event medal. ETC, and so on. Just something to give recognition to players who are actually good (or tryhard lmao)

-Indepth TAB stats window - ingame, while tabbed you can currently see statistics like user names, room name, k/d/exp etc. What I suggest is a more in depth statistic tracker where you can hover over a user's name and shows a popup window of their personal stats (achievements/medals/activity/etc)

-Ingame Sprays - is it possible to add in custom sprays like fortnite/TF2? Just a little thing to add i feel would add to our personality as a community. Be able to upload our own sprays like how we can upload our clan emblems, and spray them ingame (like in place of a med item? or create new item to show spray? or as a shotgun and instead of bullets being left behind it is your custom spray instead.)

-Freestylers world records - I remember we used to have a thread with a whole bunch of random records lol. like record for most players stacked in a tower, most meds covered on the map, most players in a picture. Just random shit like that I feel would make the community more active in just wanting to do things ingame.

Well, i think it's better a horde mode, something like zombies mode of call of duty, it'll be a really fun pve mode. Other pve mode is a boss rush mode, a mode that take all npcs from all quests and put them all on one map, then there will be one boss per floor/round, making a total of 16 floors/rounds, this one can be a really challenge mode if you make it good.

I think FGunz has tried adjusting the meta before and that was a big no go, unfortunately. That's just the nature of Gunz though, its synonymous with kstyle and using a katana and shotguns. The question is what else can you build around that? Then what means are feasible for spreading awareness outside of the existing community? Advertising attempts have a very limited effect with all the takedowns.

Exactly what S1lent said. I think that's a big issue here. When new weapon / weapon types are added people complain about the change of meta. Same thing happened when snipers were introduced, a bunch of those old gen players complained about the change of meta and it took long until they got used to it. So you have people that want new weapon types but you also have people that don't. We actually tried a lot of cool things though, I think. Such as gems (9 different upgradeable gem types, and you can equip 3 defensive and 2 offensive gems), or upgradeable weapons, dynamic/modern hitboxes and such, but we reverted all that because players didn't like the changes. They wanted the same old nostalgic gunz gameplay instead. I personally think Humans VS Infected is one of the cool modes/things we have right now, if people would just play it more.

The next things that are most likely to come are Blitzkrieg and Battle Royale - these are 2 big projects though. Other things we have planned are King of the Hill, Skillmap Mode, and custom event maps and modes (in combination) that give you something very different, new and fun.

I think the problem wasn't the new content, if you ask me it was how they were added.

Gems system: it's right that I wasn't there when this was added, but I saw a lot of opinions about this, and I think the solution of this was simple, add PvP modes or a tag that disable it for this system, so the people would have the choice to play the classic PvP without gems, and a new PvP with the gems. Same thing with the new hitbox, it's true that the majority of players didn't like this change, but this hitbox maybe could be fun on other modes, so they all could have an option for play with the new hitbox if they want to. In this way, you can make everyone happy and no one will say "delete it" because it's just an option and isn't necessary to play with it.

New weapons: I will not deny the fact that is really hard to add new weapons and make it good for people like it. But let's be honest, there's a option on making for people can play ONLY WITH SHOTGUNS, i really don't understand why people doesn't like there can be more styles for play.

New modes: Here is where the real headache comes. I won't lie saying that people will play all modes that you add. There's a lot dead modes (assassination, team turbo, infected (humans vs infected), gun game, spy mode, etc.) And it's hard to make them relevant, but I think this isn't cuz players don't like them, I think it's cause the small playerbase this game has, because the actually community of players that fgunz has is a competitive community, so it's obviously that these modes will not played til there are more "casual" players that only wants fun. Maybe for now y'all should focus on add competitive things til there can come new players that they are interested on fun modes.

So here is where I can give you some ideas based on other games for competitive modes and make old players come again (or at least get the attention of new competitive players):

Ranked Mode: There's something that is like a blue sword when you are in lobby or a gameroom, so let's get this idea and convert it in something like League of Legends rank system. This mode is something like clan wars but individual, the map will be totally random, hp/ap will be on 125/100, the weapons will be lvl 1 ones, and the system of the mode will be similar to Duel mode. When game starts, other players couldn't join, and no one can leave the mode til this ends, each time a duel finish, the map will change, and when one get the max of kills (example 20) the game ends, then points for the rank of each player will be based on the amount of kills and the k/d's, example: 20/10 k/d = 10 points for the rank. When the count of points reach certain amount, it pass to the next rank (example: 250 points for gold I to gold II). Depending on the rank the player has, it'll show a certain symbol on lobby/gameroom. Of course, for don't make everyone play all styles there will be an option for select your game style like kstyle, glad and snipers.

Achievement System: Like AznNinja said, it'll be a nice idea this system for competitive. Things like (Kill 100 players on Capture The Flag), or (Survive for 10 mins on Human vs Infected), these class of achievement can add a really good reason for play not only for ego, also for make people play other modes for get these achievement. And maybe add something like "Achievement Points" for make a Ranking of achievement.

New Rankings: Of course, if we are talking of competitive ideas, this cannot miss. I'm sure I'm not wrong saying that a lot of people wants to ego their count of kills or their k/d's, so just make it and a lot of people will be thankfully and happy.

Horde Mode: Yeah, a PvE mode can be a competitive mode too. This is simple, just add an infinite NPC spawn in one map, but after kill a certain amount of NPCs there'll be a break time, basically the round system of zombies mode of call of duty, and after like 10 rounds there'll spawn a boss, of course in each round you pass it'll be getting hard with more count of NPCs in each round, more hard to kill and they'll have more DMG. The competitive fact here is the count of round each team pass (yes, a team, cuz it's obviously that pve modes are made for play in team and not in solo), making a competitive feeling in the players for be the ones that have the most rounds passed.

Gem system:
Epic idea by S1lent (and me), it worked really well but in all honesty the number that were given to each gem where not done by us but McSic.
Personally I think if the number would be lower and no donation option the system would've been perfect as a new addition to the game where you had a few different options to choose from, whether you wanted a little bit more defense, offense or utility.

Ranked system:
It should not be too hard if you want to combine the clan system into the duel mode if you'd ask me.
But I had this idea back when Wucas was a developer, I am sure other developers had this idea too but never created it.
Even had cosmetical rewards planned so you could show your skill to others after a ladder reset.

Achievements:
Worked on this with Jetman but we never finished it, we did had a working base for this project but it was only an alpha state.
Personally I am a huge fan of achievement systems in games, another thing where you could show off your skill, time and dedication to the game.

New modes:
For me the only mode I would like to see is Parkour mode, not for me to play but for our skilled players that complete the skillmap courses.
Would be nice to have an actual mode for this with progression steps, difficulties and experience reward so your effort is rewarded.
Difficulties would be based on how fast you can complete a skillmap, the harder the more experience you get.
The progression steps would be shows by an arrow to indicate where you need to go (like quest, where it shows you the way to the portal to go to the next stage).

I think it is really hard to determine what would get old players back to the game and what could attract new players to the game.
