How to change default settings without changing it in the game

I know there is a file in the root folder, file named is config.xml. I am not sure if thats the right file.

The problem is, mine doesn't have config.xml in the root folder. I already asked a friend to send his config.xml.
I put that file in the FGunZ folder but there is an error upon entering the game. Error was: DirectX failed to initialize.

If I change it in-game, my session crashes upon hitting OK. It still crashes if I hit OK without modifying default settings.

My operating system is ElementaryOS Jolnir 6
I'm using Linux OS

I have tried everything including downloading wine, winetricks, mono, you name it, to no avail.

My suggestion is, are there any way to change the default settings "technically"?

As far as I know, there are only 2 ways for changing the settings. Either in-game or inside the config.xml file
