Yes, you can hook it up to that monitor but gaming wouldn't be as smooth as it should be.

Your gpu is a 960m so lower than a gtx 750ti and gtx 950 and the BenQ XL2411 is a 144hz monitor..

You can connect the screen to your laptop and use it for every day use.
But when you're gaming you have to lower your game settings to play on 144hz, because your gpu is not strong enough.

60Hz or 120Hz doesn't change my FPS in League of Legends... but it does make it much smoother as long as I run at a stable 120FPS.
But also something simple as making circles with my cursor on the 120Hz monitor vs the 60Hz monitor, 120Hz much smoother and nicer for the eyes.

The only thing you have to keep in mind is that if you buy a 144 Hz monitor but you are unable to reach 144+ FPS you will not benefit the full 100% of the monitor [correct me if I am wrong]. So besides the heavy new-gen games you will benefit from the extra smoothness of the 144Hz, less input lag, etc.. And then there is GSYNC and stuff I am totally unfamiliar with. But Google can be your friend, though.

Try searching something like: "144Hz monitor without 144 FPS"

    Correct
Monitor doesn't effect you're fps the only problem is people buy 144hz monitors without knowing if their GPU can maintain 144 fps or above.
Which is why you have to lower your game settings to meet your monitors requirements.
