I'd recommend you go for an AMD ryzen 1600x or an Intel i5 7600k. Depends if you value higher core count or clock speed. Then go from there. Although the AMD would probably do you better in the long run.

Uh no. He said i5 7500 which is a kaby lake and that is 7th gen. Click his link. Says it supports 7th and 6th gen. Unless you know better than gigabyte.

If I were you, the 3 parts you should be looking to upgrade are going to be your cpu, ram and mobo. A C2D is really dated at this point. Im not sure what the prices in EU are right now though.
