How do you properly set up Kaspersky Internet Security? I've been using this and for some reason it likes to make my ping higher and sometimes --- ping.

    Any help would be useful.

Did you put gunz.exe to your exceptions list?

Yes, trusted applications. Add gunz.exe there.
Adding it to exceptions means it won't scan gunz as a hack or virus. Maybe it's also the reason why you're having ae or bad ping, because Kaspersky Internet Security's blocking gunz.

Exception list is not the issue, KIS is known to be an anti-virus which eats up a lot of memory especially during an update, your download speed gets eaten by Kaspersky.
It's the best anti-virus in my opinion but it's too heavy even for mid-end gaming computers, uninstalling it would probably fix your ping issue (for some time) unless you have a really crappy internet and PC but that's up to you of course.
