List of Logical Statements to Help Determine Circle-of-Mines type events' winners

This thread is designed to help players and staff members to better understand concepts related to how winners are determined in the event 'Circle of Mines' or others following the same theme (for example, musical chairs).

Over the last few months and recently in general, there has not been a clear understanding of how to determine winners and it was rather apparent lately, so I decided to make this thread with the above purpose.

Sidenote (mainly to prevent hate and drama): The thread is designed to help players understand what they must do to win, and what hosts should do to be as fair as possible and make the event as enjoyable as possible. It's merely a guideline, every host can just say fũck it to all of these statements and do whatever he wants or have no winners if he wishes, but IMO that beats the purpose of events and beats the fun out of them.

Let's start with some basic statements that apply to any number of players larger than 3;

• Statement 1: In a standard event, unless stated otherwise, there will be 3 winners. no more, no less.
• Statement 2: Players who pass a circle, get to go onto a NEXT ROUND, and everyone who didn't have failed and therefore should be kicked or dealt with otherwise.
• Statement 3: Players who have passed the circle and died afterwards or otherwise havent even tried and died due to circumstances revolving the event rules will not be given a second chance and are referred to as players who failed and should be dealt with the same way as those who failed.

From these statements, you can conclude the following to help determine winners;

• In a situation where more than 3 players remain, but some of them have to leave the event or have failed as described in statement 3, and as a result only 3 players remain eligible to play, they would be considered the only ones who passed statement 2 and therefore are the winners.
  
  • Explanation: The 3 remaining players alive after some players have left are the only ones who have passed a circle that no one else in the room did, and therefore, to ensure statement 1 is followed, the last 3 are the only ones who could be winners.
    
  • Conclusion: Even if a player in the last 3 in said circumstance failed the following circle, he will still earn points based on distribution described in the event rules, due to having no one else who is able to win instead of him.
• If a player in the last 3 had to go or had disconnected or left for any other reason other than literally failing to pass the circle, he will be treated equally to someone who DID fail to pass the circle AND as someone who can no longer attempt to pass (due to him leaving), thus rendering him someone who has won the least number of points, AKA +1.
  
  • Explanation: A player (in this case the last 2 that didnt leave) who can keep trying to win is guaranteed to pass atleast 1 circle more than the person who left (to ensure statement 1), therefore the person who left may only win 1 point.
    
  • Conclusion: Player(s) who left can only win +1, the remaining player(s) will ALWAYS get +2 or +3, regardless of what happens in the future, and should therefore not be forced to pass any other circle to justify winning more than +1.
• If 2 players leave the room and only 1 remains, both players will receive +1 and the last one receives +3, and he doesn't have to perform any further actions to justify the +3.
  
  • Explanation: Due to having no one else who is able to win over the last player in the room after 2 have left, there is no circumstance in which the player loses to another and would therefore not win +3.
    
  • Conclusion: A last player in the room does not need to do any further actions like trying a new circle or dying again in first to die (which i thought was obvious), as he cannot possibly lose.

• All of the above statements are also true if a +3 winner has already been declared (one of the three passes, and the other 2 fail, and therefore fight for +2 and +1), The only difference is that the remaining player is not the one who can win +3, but +2.
  
  • Explanation: Lets say a player who remains after a +3 winner was declared (who is therefore out of the game) and his +2/+1 opponent left. That last player is the only one who can compete and attempt to win, because no one else can beat him except the person who got +3 and is already out of the game.
    
  • Conclusion: Considering the last player can continually attempt to pass circles even if he fails (following statement 1), he should be given the +2 instantly instead of constantly asking him to first pass a circle that the person who left didnt pass.

To ensure all of these statements and conclusions can be easily followed, that the event will take a reasonable amount of time, and that it will be fair for all players, the host should make sure he does the following when he hosts:

• A gradual increase in difficulty from circle 1 up until circle n (the last one).
• Knowing the difference between very hard (close to impossible) circles and hard ones to allow winners to be decided rather quickly (instead of having them constantly fail and re-try to ensure statement 1).
• Understanding the basic concept behind the statements and what would happen if they weren't followed (unfairness, bad selection of winners).
