Believe it or not, we don't have a reading class. We have an 'English' class, in which we basically study our language and the history around it. We also write 5 page essays and actually learn to use grammar properly, beyond slang and street-talk. ^-^ The problem is how much English changes compared to other languages. Even though we have reading classes, if you ask the average American today to read a excerpt from a book in 1600's English, they'd barely be able to understand half of it. It's also quite funny how you insult Americans on not knowing our own language when you clearly can't write English for shit.
