That is not how it 100% works, sure it considers your MMR, but usually if they are with 4 premade the queue finds the closest MMR and solo player (that could be you) -> even if you were silver or bronze.
I've had normal games solo with random diamond 1's or up, doesn't mean my MMR is diamond lol.

I'd say icon all the way (at least that is what I normally did, collect all icons XD).
But I spend mine on key fragments so I would have lesser boxes, I was so wrong lulz.

Definitely skin orb. Gave me 2 random skin shard and the Garen emote, was definitely worth it.
