You did not read the first post of the thread, so what you wrote is incorrect (SapMagic explains it).
It is based on TEAM MMR & if you WIN or LOSE (how much LP you gain or lose and the MMR you get).

100 bucks everyone in bronze and silver has to retake placements, thus placing them all in that rank, then the bronze and silvers will think they're good or something. To be honest no matter what, if you fail to climb out of bronze or silver within 1-2 months of playing then league aint for you lol.

yeah but arguably most people who are in those ranks atm (not stating that theyre trying to climb as you mentioned) are players who just have fun playing the game. you do have a point, however you can not judge from just their mastery points or whatnot. Probably by actually looking into he/she/it's behaviour. Chat logs, if they fool around in the game and all. However your point still stands, i still think a lot of people just don't really care about their rank. Some play to get a rank and go back to normals, other don't care about improving and just play ranked as it is.

They also buffed the mmr you get since season 7 or last season, so a lot more people ended up in silver as before (I think they added 200 MMR for placements).
