Its designed to protect the hand from getting slashed.

As you can see in the first 2 pictues, I've taken it off.

If I do keep it on, I'll re-texture that part.

wel... the sword came from dmc(devil may cry), that string is a handel desgined to inject fuel in the sword so that it can swing faster and strongerxD
