[Help - Launcher] Could not connect to patch server- already tried allowing through firewall/anti-virus

I've already tried:

- redownloading the game multiple times
- allowing gunz.exe/launcher.exe through firewall and anti-virus
- turning off my firewall
- downloading the latest launcher
- restarting my computer

None of these solutions seemed to have done it, any suggestions?

note: I have windows 8, could that be a problem?
