Overclocking your gfx card doesn't affect gameplay.

Overclocking your cpu/fsb is forbidden as that would affect gameplay.

You need to keep an eye on your card's temperatures when overclocking.*
Neglecting to do so will cause your card to overheat and can possibly damage it.
*You'd also want to make sure it gets plenty of cooling.

Overclocking also voids warranty.

I had a bad network last month but my FPS was fine
