I love the lighting going on here. A couple of things to maybe fix up for next time around. The transition from dark to pink is far to sudden, it creates a very large contrast. I would suggest using multiple pinks and darks as well as thinning out the smudging to reduce the contrast. The second tip would be to darken the area behind his hand or darker his hand by reducing the amount of lighting that hits it. Its almost invisible in that white.

As for the smudging itself my biggest problem is it looks the same on both sides. Maybe smudge the foreground in front of it on either side to change that.

All in all I really like this one. I don't think the problem with the text is the colors, most likely just the font imo.
