Naruto Gaiden: Nanadaime Hokage to Akairo no Hanatsuzuki takes story to new generation

This year's 18th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine is announcing on Monday that the spinoff manga mini-series Naruto Gaiden: Nanadaime Hokage to Akairo no Hanatsuzuki (Naruto Spinoff: The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring Month) will start on April 27. The combined 22nd/23rd issue of Weekly Shonen Jump will ship on April 27, and the magazine teases, "Urgent News: The story enters a new generation…"

Hanatsuzuki is a month in the traditional Japanese lunar calendar, and it roughly falls around late March to early May in the modern calendar.

The main Naruto manga by Masashi Kishimoto ended in Weekly Shonen Jump on November 10 after 15 years of serialization. However, the magazine had revealed then that "a newly budding Konoha story" will begin this spring. An art exhibition and a stage play is also debuting this spring.

It is neat to have an after story arc. I mean, it is uncommon, but not unheard of. I'm honestly all for it, especially since it's confirmed a mini-series and won't spiral off into a huge thing.

JJBA is a fairly popular series that has done similar to this; where the next season/arc is a generation or two down the line of the previous. Except this time it will be a mini-series, so don't expect too much out of this new Naruto; just enough to make you happy I suppose.

I'll be one to say this... Naruto isn't a terrible series, but at the same time can't be considered amazing. It's above average and enjoyable for what it is (Okay maybe except for the ungodly amount of wasteful, money-grabbing exposition in the animation). Having an after-story is basically a fanfic gone canon and I can guarantee this is what people want.
