Steins;Gate - Although it has no action it's got a kinda dark and gloomy air to it a lot of the time. - Also one of my most favourite animes.

I dont mind slow paced animes. So I guess yes. And how dark? Well it depends lol. Show what ya got!

Texhnolyze is very good. But it's dark, badass and depressing at the same time. Very slow paced, though it speeds up a bit after a little while.

Kurozuka is my favorite anime, it gets really badass really fast, but you've never heard nor seen a more twisted story.

Shinsekai Yori is a dark-not so dark very good anime. There's a reason for the high ratings, it's a really interesting one that won't let you get bored, while maintaining a decent enough story. This is the one most likely to suit you as it's not too dark, nor slow paced.

Something that's actually very good: Shigurui. But it's somewhat violent. Good story even if it gets slightly wierd later on. The premise is insanely awesome though.

Jyu Oh Sei - One of my favorites. Not really dark, but not light either. It's a fine balance this one.... used to be my favorite before kurozuka. (If you are one of those heretics who watches dubs, may your ears bleed from the bad voices)

Those should keep you occupied a little bit, but it's hard to suggest things when I don't really know what you want. Most of the time people end up correcting themselves as what they said they are looking for isn't really what they are looking for. So hit me up if that's the case and get me a more precise/different category. Otherwise, enjoy!

I'm currently watching it now. (EP 18) It's really good, you should definitely watch it. There's a second season too.

IMO, it starts off a bit slow and boring, it's just setting up the world for you, then they start ripping it down. It starts to get really good at around episode 7 on-wards. It is good before that but was just a tad boring to me.
