How about making Near the event points word called 'Ranking', When you click there you will see Top 3 that won events this week so you will be aware if they can get u

but yeah good idea and it makes events more competitive (i must admit i have no idea how events work, so sorry if it's already competitive)

It's a terrible thing, I think, in life to wait until you're ready.
