    Ahoy players that read my blogs,

    Decided to post again...!

    May BTS final list

    • Male head icons (?)
    • Female head icons (157 icons, 3 aren't in the game yet and somehow I lowered the loadable file with 550 kb)
    • Zombie King visual update (roughly 80% done, needs testing)
    • Fixed male db set (file size reduce)
    • Fixed male emo shirt (file size reduce)
    • Fixed male event jacket (file size reduce)
    • Correct hat model for Alucard set
    • Fixing overused textures on maps (100%)
    • Fixed blue tournament sword texture (pixel fix)
    • Fixed Erza body texture (slight skin pixel/colour fix)
    • Added two new coloured tournament swords
    • Added fg promotion shirt (male)
    • Added illuminati shirt (male)
    • Reworked skillmap V1 ~ V4 banners for lobby and game room
    • Re-mapped textures on Skillmap V1 ~ V4 (heave file size reduce)
    • Re-mapped textures on SuperFlip (heavy file size reduce)
    • Re-mapped textures on Complex (heavy file size reduce)

    I cannot say if anything will be added in any update in May but I will try my best to give some content to you, the players every month.





    Set fixing

    Let's dive into some talk about this so called "set fixing".

    As I said before, I will work on the donation set for example.
    To start of you have to imagine that a set in gunz consists of 1 model file (ELU) and 5 textures (images).
    Now what some other developers have done in the past and some still do is only using certain parts of excisting models to make a "new" set like the donation set.
    Currently it contains out of 5 files (ELU), each a full set model (so 25 pieces in total, 5 for each model).
    This will add up in the total size of the client and makes the folder for say the male models a lot longer.

    What I am going to do is remove all the extra pieces that are not needed and re-rig (attach a model to a skeleton) it so it works with all the animations and movements we have in the game.

    Here is an example of the male donation set how it currently is.



    As you can see above the 5 model files together are 2212 kb, while most normal sets made by the original creators arrange from 600~1000 KB.
    And if you add up this a few times with some custom sets we have you easily waste 6~8 MB just on parts the game not even uses.
    Only 6~8 MB you say? Add that up for the female ones, some maps files and such and you are getting closer to 50 MB that is just wasted on doubled files.
    Sure your computers from this time can handle it all, but think of us Developer that have to work with multiple files that are in the client, it becomes a huge mess over the client versions we have had.

    When I am finished with this set I shall update the thread with the wanted result by me of how the set should be (including correct names and such).

    Set Progress

    So far I combined four separate pieces into a whole as shown below. (on the right side)
    As I explained in a part earlier, this is to reduce the amount of file and KBs we have in our current client.

    So last time the whole set was 2212 KB right?
    As of now with the four combined pieces into one file (so two files, a body and the rest) the current KB on the two is 304 + 371 = 675 KB
    2,212 - 675 = 1537 KB less needed into the client with the same models (!)

    You could see it as some soda companies sell drinks now with say 30% less sugar but it tastes the same, isn't the ideal for the company and the customers?

    Donation set (2212 > 675 KB ; saved 1537 KB > still have to finish the chest so it could be lower)


    DB set (1977 > 468 KB ; saved 1509 KB)


    Emo shirt (905 -> 306 KB ; saved 599 KB) made a second version as possible replacement if people didn't really like the old one.


    Having fun, sadly it looks laggy on the gif... (does it go down or up? it's a mind f*ck )


    alucard hat (329 -> 273 KB ; saved 56 KB, also fixed the texture where it missed some more touch up basing it of Google search)






    Map texture remapping/lights fixes

    TLDR; removed the texture in the maps itself and adjusted the code that it will read the same textures from the original maps like Mansion, Town or Prison or that I saved the same textures as a different file to reduce the size of kb per map.
    Also some maps needed a new lightmap like Skillmap V1, V2 and V4. (that is why V4 only has an 1 kb improvement, besides the map was pretty optimised)


    Finalised the optimisation for the few maps;
    • Complex current: 2929 kb
    • Complex optimised: 1620 kb


    • Skillmap V1 current: 639 kb
    • Skillmap V1 optimised: 500 kb


    • Skillmap V2 current: 1067 kb
    • Skillmap V2 optimised: 345 kb


    • Skillmap V3 current: 1859 kb
    • Skillmap V3 optimised: 591 kb


    • Skillmap V4 current: 196 kb
    • Skillmap V4 optimised: 195 kb


    • Superflip current: 3389 kb
    • Superflip optimised: 1550 kb


    139 + 722 + 1268 + 2239 + 1309 + 1 = 5678 kb saved (meaning removed from the total client)

    Might as well add the different skin textures to this along with bellybuttons on different positions (so you can actually have 2 bellybuttons on your character )

    I cannot do anything about that, that is how they coded the overwrite system for clothing.

    Yes, I noticed yesterday that the model shouldn't be a motor helm.
    It should not be too hard to change it to a red hat.
