This is just a discussion on today's meta-style, how it has changed over time, and what caused it. What is the "meta-style"? The meta-style is the style of play that you see most often in the best players. More specifically, the meta-style is what the public majority considers the "best" style. Right now, I think that the meta-style is mid-range aggressive shotgun spamming. There was once a time when the meta-style was a combination of close-range and mid-range. Now, if you even slash your opponent once, there's a chance they'll flame you and say, "spb." When I enter a duel room, 80% of time, I see someone walking and RSing from about 20-30 feet away or so. It's become a game of aim and RS speed (with maybe a late-dash every now and then).
In my opinion, I think the cause of this is anti-lead. Anti-lead has made it too easy for some people to aim. When you had to duel someone with 70 ping without anti-lead, it wasn't such a bad idea to rush them with your sword for a few slashes, and then go for the double PB in close range. That was actually considered decent play-style in 2010 if you could approach it correctly. Now, that sort of play-style is flamed and frowned upon. Is it just me?
This all may seem very bais or assumptive, so I would like the opinions of others. What truly is the meta-style right now. Has it actually changed in the past 2-3 years? In your opinion, what's the prime catalyst and other minor catalysts promoting this change?
