I'm going for the iPhone 5 because I like the design of it
iPhone UI is by far better than the S3.
Samsungs hardware is somewhat better. iPhone is still fast enough.
iPhones design is much better than the S3's. (Smaller, Lighter, Cleaner)
iPhone is much more durable than the S3, despite the fact S3 used Gorilla glass? Drop tests prove the iPhone lasts longer.
iOS is better in Comparison to Android as it's much easier to use.
Samsung is more compatible file wise, as the iPhone is picky with the file types it accepts.
Camera Quality on both phones fairly the same.
Pfff. Bigger phones are better for me, it depends on what he likes. iPhone is shit spec wise compared to the S3.
iPhone 5 runs at (overclocked, which you CAN NOT DO, it normally runs at 1.03) 1.3 ghz, S3 at 1.5 ghz. S3 has a dual core and 2 GB of RAM, iPhone 5 is a dual core with only 1 GB of RAM. iPhone 5 battery can only handle 8-10 hours of data usage on wifi, less than 8 on LTE, while the S3 can run data 24/7 for almost 30 hours on a full battery. Get an extended battery for the S3, which again, isn't possible on an iPhone, and you can make your battery life last for 3-4 days.
On the S3, you can root it, give superuser powers, take full control of your phone, put a gameboy emulator on it, play DS games on it, debug things, record at 1280x720, and ermagerd the Galaxy S3 has S-Beam, you can transfer files/data with other S-Beam users if they're within a few feet of you at up to 10 GB/s.

You say the ios UI is much better then the UI of android but you dont say why.
the android UI has more options and functions then the ios UI but sometimes its a bit of chaotic and it could be hard to find the option you are looking for. the ios has a simple and good working ui but it doesnt have much options.
I think android is much better because you can do much more with it (like extra customization, more settings, acces to all the files on your phone with a file browser and probably some other stuff that im forgetting. Also when you connect your android phone to your computer you can just browse the files on your phone so you can easely put pictures/music/apps from your pc to your phone and the other way around. no need for useless and stupid software like itunes.
The camera of the galaxy sIII is better on paper but i dont really know if you can spot the diffrence. from what i've heard they both have their ups and downs.
the iphone design might be smaller and lighter but i prefere bigger screens and resolutions. Also i like the edges from the galaxy SIII and the color isnt just black but some kind of gray/blue color. I really that aswell.
about the prizes:
16GB iPhone 5: €676
32GB iPhone 5: €778
64GB iPhone 5: €879
galaxy SIII: around 500 with 16GB. since you can put in an extra sd card you can upgrade the memery to basicly anything.
that's why i think the samsung phones are better.
Android wins in every aspect
