That's because black gets read as alpha (= invisible).
If we change that, we can have a black dash.

No, my version wasn't 100% black but it was really dark and it looked awful from what I remember.

Yeah, and I just told you why.

We'll have to decline this for now until we figure out how to make use of alpha channels for dash. (So it stops interpreting black as alpha)
And then we'll have to make it pretty. Until then...
