How to protect your Skype IP from Resolvers and prevent DDoS.

This guide will teach you how to protect your Skype IP from Skype Resolvers and also to prevent DDoS.

Step 1: Head over to http://www.hidemyass.com/proxy-list/, then match your settings to following picture OR you could search a proxy for your country for better/faster connection and click Update Results.

This should list the fastest proxies for the US. Obviously, substitute the country for another if you are not residing in the US (Or as I already mentioned, if you wish to use a proxy in another country for whatever reason).

Step 2: Pick a server, generally you want to go with the one at the top since it's the fastest.

The top three should give you a good fallback if the very top one becomes overloaded.
Note: Skype does not typically USE the proxy you set unless it's blocked from a direct connection however you can FORCE it to use the proxy via registry settings. That's what we're about to do.

Step 3: Go to - https://dl.dropbox.com/u/33446/twitch/skype.html

This configurator will generate a registry file for you to merge into your windows registry. It's entirely safe, and in the event that you wish to remove your proxy (You can't remove it through Skype itself), it also provides a key that will automatically remove your proxy settings.

Step 4: Put your selected proxy's IP and port in the appropriate boxes.

And click save. It will prompt you to save the file, so save it somewhere you can find it, I recommend you to save it on the Desktop since you can easily find it there.

Step 5: Go find the file, and either Right Click -> Merge... OR Double Click it.

Step 6: It will tell you that you shouldn't add information from sources you don't trust.

Click "Yes".

And we are done!
It will merge the values into your registry, now RESTART YOUR COMPUTER and you should be protected!

Remember, if your connection through a certain proxy is bad, use a different proxy! Have fun and be safe! Remember that if someone already has your IP, change it AFTER you set up your proxy connection!

I actually tried this twice.

Connection is terrible, first time I could not see any contacts.
Second time I could not join any calls.

Or.. You could be careful on the people you get to know.

Not anymore, Mike taught me yesterday how to make the resolver unable to work :P

No offense, its a nice thread... but there's nothing you can do to protect your ip. The only way is to protect it is to connect through a VPN at all times.

And if so, did you restarted your computer for the changes to apply on your PC?

already tried it because i get ddosed everytime if i cw or do something else or if my mom is on fb she get ddosed just life less people wont work mate trust me

Before doing anything you should have made a registry backup.

To revert it, press start, in the field type regedit and hit enter.
Go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\" and delete the whole skype tree.

Restart your pc and it should be back to normal.

You could do that or head over to the link from which you downloaded the proxy.
On the bottom right side there is an option "Remove Proxy", Click it > Save it on Desktop > Run it and restart your PC.

Yeah, let's use some random proxy where a guy could be behind to get ur id pw's.

Just the fact that if you use a proxy/VPN, people who offers them can just sniff packets and check which sites you visited, and with which id/pws you logged in.

Could probably even do some shit w/ ur skype

I've tested it myself you dumb kid.

If you get a VPS, setup a Proxy on it, connect from ur Computer to it, run a sniffer on the VPS, then log into a website from ur computer, the sniffer shows the GET/POST

On the top bar -> help -> about skype -> make sure you're on skype version 6.5 or greater.
Then tools -> options -> advanced -> connections -> tick the last box that says "allow direct connections from my contacts only"

Bam, now unless you have a static ip eventually you cant be resolved anymore and sooner or later if a website logs old ip's those will become void anyway.

Microsoft really should've made the service opt-out instead of opt-in but meh.

The only thing that does is hide your IP during calls with people you don't know...

yo okay so as soon as i log on skype it shuts down and closes says program not responding does this mean im being ddos'd or does m skype juyst suck and i needa reinstall

Which is how most resolvers grab your ip.
They send a call request to you, you get it -> skype replies for you -> they take your ip from that reply and don't send the confirmation for the call thus you're never alerted to it.

Throw's off most resolvers.

Actually there are ways to grab the IP without needing to call. API methods for Skype, which is an exploit.

Besides skype isn't the only way people can get your ip. Ddosers can also get your ip from gunz in game... while you're playing with them so theres no point to think that if you're safe from skype, you're safe forever.

Yeah there's tons of packet sniffer programs that let you filter through udp ports with people you are connected to. Making it that much easier to grab an IP lol. Unless you have a strong VPN you'll go down fast.

A better way for skype atleast would be to tick the option.
Most resolves actualy cache ips to be able to give a result faster.
The resolvers now would point to ms servers or just be unable to resolve a ip.

It doesn't hide your IP during calls with people you do have on your contacts list tho, so... I agree it does help in someway, but it's still easy to get someones IP.

This is still the best option.
Or use Proxifier and add a lot of proxies. With Proxifier you can force certain processes to use a specific proxy. (I use a VPN and Proxifier in my case, still download with 6+Mb/s.)
